Shopify is always evolving, with new features and updates rolling out regularly to help retailers stay ahead—but keeping up shouldn't be a chore. That's why this hub tracks every POS update and relevant Shopify changes in one place.
Every two weeks, Shopify releases an updated POS version and this post is refreshed to highlight what's new. If you have multiple retail locations, it's best practice to use an MDM (Mobile Device Management) to manage app versions, and to test each new release on a few devices before rolling it out to all stores. To see previous months' updates, scroll to the bottom of this post.

Updates in POS version 11.3 (March 30, 2026 release date)
Get more control over cash management

What changed: Shopify POS now gives staff and managers more visibility into cash activity. On device, staff can see a full session summary, add reason codes for non-cash actions, and control whether the cash drawer opens automatically after a sale. In Admin, the new Register Sessions tab shows open and closed sessions, expected cash balances by location, and improved filtering and export.
Why it matters: This makes end-of-day reconciliation easier and gives merchants a clearer record of cash activity across their stores.

Build custom cash management workflows
What changed: Cash management is now more extensible for merchants with custom app needs. New cash drawer and ledger models let multiple devices contribute to one drawer, and new extension points and APIs support custom open and close flows, balance checks, reporting, and device assignment.
Why it matters: This gives more complex retail operations the flexibility to tailor cash workflows to how their business runs.

Cash out low gift card balances in POS
What changed: Merchants can now cash out gift card balances under $15 USD or the local equivalent right from the gift card details screen in POS. Each cash-out is logged in the gift card timeline in POS and Admin and also appears in cash management session activity.
Why it matters: This makes it easier to handle low gift card balances in store while keeping a clear record for compliance and reporting.
Access: To cash out a balance, open the gift card details screen in POS and tap Cash out balance on an eligible gift card.

Create pickup orders in POS

What changed: Staff can now create pickup orders in Shopify POS for items customers will collect later. They can choose pickup at checkout and use the existing pick and pack workflow in POS to fulfill the order when it’s ready.
Why it matters: This gives retailers a clearer way to manage made-to-order, tailored, or incoming items in store without switching between tools.
Access: Available in POS v11.3 when the “Pickup in store” fulfillment method is enabled in the store. Admins can also set the “Fulfill shipping and pickup orders” staff permission in their admin under Sales channels > Point of Sale to control which staff can manage pickup orders. This release supports pickup orders for the current location in POS.

Epson TM-T88 printer now works with POS
What changed: Shopify POS now supports the Epson TM-T88 printer, so merchants can connect it and print receipts directly from POS. To use it, connect the printer to your POS device and select it in hardware settings.
Why it matters: This gives merchants another reliable receipt printer option for faster, smoother checkout.
Access: Automatically available in POS v11.3. No action required; all staff will have access. Make sure your printer firmware is up to date for the best compatibility.

Multi-entity merchants can now use Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android
What changed: Tap to Pay on iPhone or Android is now available for Shopify Plus merchants who sell from multiple legal entities with Shopify Payments. Admins can also set it up from Settings > Payments, making it easier to onboard multiple locations from one place.
Why it matters: Multi-entity merchants can now offer fast, contactless checkout without extra setup at each location. That means simpler onboarding, less admin work, and a more consistent payment experience across stores.
Access: Available in POS v11.3, but requires setup to enable. Please follow the steps in Settings > Payments > Tap to Pay on iPhone. On supported Android devices, Tap to Pay is available by default once staff sign in to POS. Regional availability applies.

POS Terminal now supports always-on card authorization
What changed: Always-on Card Authorization helps merchants using Shopify Payments on POS Terminal authorize card payments more reliably when offline checkout is enabled. If Shopify is temporarily unreachable, POS can verify the card directly with the payment processor.
Why it matters: This helps merchants keep selling with less risk during disruptions, without changing the staff checkout flow.
Access: Available in POS v11.3, but requires setup to enable. Please follow the steps in Settings > Devices > [device] > Offline checkout. Only available on POS Terminal with Shopify Payments. Offline payments can be enabled separately for additional fallback.

France and Spain POS compliance updates
What changed: If you sell in France, we recommend installing and activating the free Comply app as soon as possible. If you’re already using Shopify POS v11.3 or later, Comply must be activated by April 13, 2026 to avoid blocked sales. Shopify POS v11.3 is the compliant version, but if you’re on an earlier POS version, you can continue selling while you plan your upgrade and consult local legal counsel on compliance requirements and any potential penalties.
In France and Spain, printed POS receipts now show line-item VAT and VAT summaries, and merchants can now reprint individual receipts from POS.
In France, POS also disables manual tax overrides and some features that do not meet local requirements, including Mark Unpaid, Offline Mode, Liquid Editor, Auto Print, and Partially Unpaid.
In Spain, manual tax overrides are disabled to help merchants prepare for upcoming Verifactu requirements.
Why it matters: These changes help merchants meet local tax rules and reduce the risk of blocked sales, audit issues, and fines.
Access: Available in POS v11.3, but requires setup to enable. Please follow the steps to update to POS v11.3 and install and activate the Comply app. This setup is required for merchants in France by April 13, 2026.

Updates in POS version 11.2 (March 19, 2026 release date)
Faster discounts at checkout, easier publishing in admin

Mistyped codes, broken tiles, and too many taps to find the right promotion—discount friction at checkout is common, and it costs time and margin. Two updates address the most common causes.
In the Smart Grid editor, you can now select discount codes from a dropdown when creating a discount tile instead of typing them manually. Fewer typos, fewer mismatches, fewer failed tiles, and a setup process that works even with new or seasonal staff running the register.
In the POS app, the discount flow is streamlined so codes are easier to find and apply with fewer taps. Recently used codes are quicker to access and an improved number pad speeds up manual entry. Discount codes are a POS Pro feature.
POS editor update is automatically available in Shopify Admin > POS Channel to staff with permission to access POS Channel.
Discounts update is automatically available in POS v11.2. No action required; all staff will have access.

Accurate device attribution for saved carts
When a cart is saved on one POS device and completed on another, the sale is accurately attributed to the device where the checkout occurs. This enhancement helps keep your cash tracking accurate, payments smoothly reconciled, and order histories clear and reliable. No more confusion about which device handled the sale—just seamless and accurate tracking across your POS devices.
Automatically available in POS v11.2. No action required; all staff will have access.
Speed up pickup orders with barcode scanning

Barcode scanning is now available on the "Prepare for pickup" screen, making it faster to fulfill pickup orders. Use your device's camera or a physical scanner to quickly match and manage items ready for pickup. Visual indicators like checkmarks and quantity counts keep your team organized and reduce errors during order preparation.
Automatically available in POS v11.2. No action required; all staff will have access.

Sell from multiple legal entities from one Shopify account
Shopify Plus store owners can now sell from multiple business entities within a single country using one Shopify account, all managed from a single admin. Configure entity assignment through Shopify Markets, and sales and payments are attributed to the correct entity automatically.
- No more managing duplicate stores or complex workarounds for multiple legal entities
- Sales, payments, and compliance are clearly attributed to the correct entity—simplifying reporting and reconciliation
Set up Shopify Payments accounts for each entity in Shopify admin under Settings > Payments, then assign entities to locations via Shopify Markets. When staff process sales in POS, payments are automatically attributed to the right entity—all managed from one admin with detailed entity-level reporting.
Available in POS v11.2, but requires setup to enable. Please follow the steps in the Help Center.

POS extensions can now run without network access
Developers can now configure their POS UI extensions to keep running when a POS device loses network connectivity. This helps in environments with unreliable internet connectivity, letting store owners maintain a consistent experience without interruptions.

Updates in POS version 11.1 (March 4, 2026 release date)
Limit staff access to customer information

With the new View Customer Details permission, you can choose which staff members can see personally identifiable customer information—like names, emails, addresses, and phone numbers—while still letting them ring up sales as usual. It's a straightforward way to limit access to sensitive data for roles that don't need it, and to stay aligned with your privacy and data protection requirements.

See matching text in POS search results
The POS global search in version 11.1 now displays the exact text that matches your query—such as SKUs or barcodes—in product, order, and customer search results. Staff can quickly confirm they've found the right item without opening additional details.
When searching by SKU or barcode, the relevant matching text appears directly in the results, reducing search effort and speeding up cart building. Order searches now show product context alongside customer info for easier confirmation, resulting in fewer taps and a smoother experience for retail staff.
